Any couple that wishes to enhance their relationship, communication, and intimacy. Additionally, if you are in a relationship crisis, deciding to stay or leave, trying to repair broken trust, stuck in an endless cycle of conflicts, fighting incessantly, bored, dissatisfied, and disconnected, you wish to open your relationship and explore other alternatives, desire more security and safety, heal attachment wounds, and the list goes on!
If domestic violence or other forms of abuse are present, couples counseling is contraindicated. However, I do see individuals stuck in abusive or toxic relationship patterns. Additionally, I do not treat sexually compulsive behaviors or sex addiction.
The first session will consist of an intake and assessment to determine your needs and a prescribed cadence of sessions supporting those. Subsequent sessions will almost always follow an initial discussion format to determine the session's direction, present-centered experiments, and a take-home strategy to practice or discuss between sessions. Ideally, you will both feel mutually supported and safe and that there is a balance of nurturing and challenge. Since I am a PACT therapist, I prioritize secure attachment, emotional attunement, and co-regulation. PACT is an efficient and immensely beneficial couples therapy modality, which soothes a couple's triggered nervous system and allows each partner to learn how to "read" and track one another, causing each to feel heard, understood, and felt on the deepest levels!
I support many couples on the brink of a breakup, separation, or divorce. While it is unavoidably painful to end a relationship, I strive to empower my clients with strategies and logistics to take these steps while held with care and compassion. Additionally, I offer uncoupling counseling, co-parenting coaching, and divorce counseling.
Communication breakdowns, navigating conflict, trust issues, resentment, avoidance, anxiety (attachment patterns), codependency, stressors (kids, finances, work, transitions), polyamory, LGTBQIA relationships, infidelity, the need for more space/more connection, overall relationship empowerment, healing attachment wounds, divorce, blending a family, and many more!
It is common for one partner to be unwilling to attend couples counseling. Often, I meet with individuals seeking support and offer them guidance and tools to help them feel more empowered and satisfied. However, one person cannot do the work of two! Two mutually participating partners are needed to heal and strengthen any relationship!
